Zoological Collection of the University of Kaiserslautern
The Zoological Collection of the University of Kaiserslautern serves for teaching and research in the fields of biodiversity, morphology and animal ecology. It archives specimen and models of more than 4,000 vertebrates and more than 35,000 invertebrates.
Teaching material, such as animal preparations and animal models is made available for courses within the framework of biology studies at the University of Kaiserslautern. Numerous species of different animal strains are available as dry or alcohol preparations, e g. for identication classes. Illustrative and comparative material from different habitats is included for zoological and ecological practical courses, e. g. on river fauna with special consideration of indicator species for the saprobial system.
Specimen & research material
The collection contains specimen of animal groups processed wihin the framework of state examination theses, bachelor or master thesis and dissertations. The focus is on historical and current collections of native insects, spiders, small mammals and birds that can be used for comparison purposes.
Training courses for the Biology Olympiad, guided tours for school classes, events in the holiday programme of the city of Kaiserslautern and Sunday collection openings within the framework of the Studium Integrale take plate at irregular intervals.
